Niklas Sule once again shone in a big game

Flick had to make changes to the back four since Jerome Boateng and Alphonso Davies were suspended for this game. There were also doubts over the fitness of Niklas Sule as he didn’t feature for Germany during international due to a muscle injury. Sule did recover in time and started in the heart of the defense against RB Leipzig.

Sule has made a habit of delivering strong performances whenever he is called upon to do it in a big game. He seamlessly slotted in the central defense during the Champions League final against PSG last summer as Boateng suffered an injury in the 25th minute. Saturday was no different for the 26-year-old defender.

More from Bayern Strikes

Throughout the game, Sule was a rock at the back. He made four interceptions in the game, most for a player on the pitch from both sides. Sule also made four clearances and blocked one chance. On the ball, he maintained composure in the most tricky situations while playing out from the back. He managed five accurate long balls in the game, most for a Bayern player on the day. It was a complete and encouraging performance from Sule on Saturday. His performance should give Flick a welcome selection headache for the game against PSG.

Ever since there have been reports emerged about Sule’s future at the club, the German defender has been solid in the right-back and center-back role in most games. He enjoys a very record in big games, so sticking with him in coming games could be a wise idea.
