Avoiding chaotic start against good Leipzig side

Ahead of the game between Bayern and RB Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann had emphasised on fast start against defending champions. Throughout the season, Die Roten has conceded goals early in the game, giving the initiative to the opposition. Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund had managed to execute this plan against Rekordmeister in the Bundesliga this season.

However, Saturday was different as Die Roten was much sharper in the first 20 minutes of the game. They were not creating chances during this passage of play, but Die Roten made sure that Leipzig is not getting the start they wanted. As time went on in the first half, Die Roten started getting out of the first gear.

Flick’s men frustrated the home side and eventually created the big opportunity to get the lead at the end of the first half. The half ended with some good chances for Die Roten to increase the lead. Along with ending the half strongly, Bayern had limited Leipzig to zero shots on target and only three shots in the first 45 minutes. (Stats courtesy: InfoGol)

Disrupting Leipzig’s plan in the first half will be a big win for the coaching staff. They will have to maintain this approach in the upcoming games against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Even if you don’t start well in the final third, but limiting the opposition before settling into the game helps the team to get a positive result.
