The international break curse has struck for Bayern Munich as they have lost Robert Lewandowski for four weeks. Rekordmeister confirmed on Tuesday that Lewandowski had sprained his knee ligament while playing for Poland on Sunday.

Lewandowski returned to Sabner Strasse on Monday after suffering a knee injury against Andorra. The Polish FA had predicted this injury to be a minor one that could rule him out for ten days. He was expected to miss the Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig but return for next week’s clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The 32-year-old’s injury was worse than the initial prognosis. Die Roten got the worst possible news on Tuesday when he was ruled out for at least four weeks. Lewandowski will miss a lot of games during this period across Bundesliga and Champions League.

The Polish striker is expected to miss at least five league games. His hopes of going past Gerd Muller’s record of 40 league goals in a season have been dealt a jolt due to this injury. Robert Lewandowski currently has 35 league goals to his name this season.

More from Bayern Strikes

Rekordmeister can somehow compensate for his absence in the Bundesliga. However, it will be a severe blow to their hopes of retaining the Champions League. Lewandowski will miss both legs of the quarter-final clash against PSG. He might also miss one leg of the semi-final if Die Roten manages to qualify for that round.

Robert Lewandowski has been the primary source for goals at Die Roten this season. He has managed to be on the scoresheet 42 times across all competitions. The Poland international also has eight assists to his name. It is going to be a very difficult role to fill for other players in the current squad.

Hansi Flick will have to come up with a system or approach in games during April to maximize the output of other attacking players in the squad. The German manager will face very tough tactical battles in the next few days against Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino. He will have to win these battles without his number nine.

Meanwhile, Die Roten has received positive news regarding Niklas Sule. The German defender has started training with the first team after missing games for Germany due to a muscle injury. He is likely to be ready for the game against RB Leipzig on Saturday. Nianzou Kouassi could also make his return as he has also started training with his teammates.
