Bayern Munich has been handed a massive injury blow during the second matchday of the international break as Robert Lewandowski suffered a ligament injury. The Polish FA has ruled out Lewandowski from the game against England this week as he returns to Sabner Straase for recovery.
After the initial prognosis, the Polish FA has confirmed that Lewandowski has suffered ligament damage in his right knee, and it will take five to ten days for complete recovery. This injury puts Lewandowski’s participation in Die Roten’s game against RB Leipzig in the coming weekend.
Since Rekordmeister and Leipzig are just separated by four points in the table, Lewandowski’s absence would be huge for the defending champions on Saturday. Hansi Flick’s men need to avoid defeat in this game to remain in the driving seat of the title race.
Die Roten is unlikely to risk Lewandowski by rushing him back to action as there are more important games later this month. Flick will be hoping that the Polish striker is fit for next week’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-German.

Lewandowski has been enjoying a prolific campaign for club and country. He managed to score a brace against Andorra on Sunday before suffering a knee injury. Earlier in the international break, the 32-year-old striker also scored a vital equaliser against Hungary.
For Die Roten, Lewandowski has managed to score 35 goals in the Bundesliga. With eight league games to go, the Polish striker is well on course to break Gerd Muller’s record of scoring 40 goals in a single campaign. The Poland international is currently scoring braces and hattricks for fun, so missing one game against RB Leipzig will not hamper his chances of breaking the record.
Lewandowski’s injury is the second blow Rekordmeister has suffered during the international break. Niklas Sule has returned to the club as he is struggling with a muscle injury. The German international didn’t feature in a single game during the international break.
Amidst these two new injuries, Rekordmeister has seen improvement in the fitness of Nianzou Kouassi. The French defender has suffered set-backs in recovery during the last couple of months, but on Monday, he started training with other players for the first time in 2021. Kouassi has been very unfortunate with injuries throughout his debut season in Bavaria. The Frenchman will be hoping to end the season on a strong note by helping the team in the latter stages of the league and European campaign.
