After enjoying a promising start to the season at Bayern Munich, the past few months have been frustrating for Lucas Hernandez. The French defender expressed his frustration during the international break as he continues to be a squad rotational player in Bavaria.

Hernandez has established himself as a first-choice left-back for France. However, he is yet to get a long run in either the left-back role or center-back position in Bavaria. Despite expressing frustration during last week on international duty, Hernandez has previously insisted that he is calm about the future in Bavaria.

All signs are pointing towards a big third season for the Frenchman. After becoming record transfer for Die Roten, Hernandez was expected to become the best player in his position. However, bad luck and different circumstances have not allowed Hernandez to show his talent on the pitch week in week out.

Davies is nailed on to be the first choice left-back in Bavaria, so central defense is the area where Hernandez will have to cement his place. In a season where there is limited time for coaches to work on the training ground, Hansi Flick has decided to stick with the reliable center-back partnership of Jerome Boateng and David Alaba.

More from Bayern Strikes

The two experienced Bayern players have also repaid the faith of Flick by being consistently good in their positions. This duo has made sure that Hernandez will have to wait for his chance patiently. Both these Die Roten legends are going to make sure that the former Atletico Madrid defender will have the chance of becoming first choice center-back at the club next season.

Alaba and Boateng are certainly leaving the club in the summer as their contracts are running down. Hernandez will be the only left-footed central defender in the squad next season, so Flick is definitely going to give him an extended run in the team. The Frenchman will be playing with his compatriots- Dayot Upamecano and Nianzou Kouassi, and Niklas Sule in the heart of defense next season.

Left-back is unlikely to be an area where Hernandez could get more game time next season. The German Champions have Davies in that position. They have also reportedly clinched the signing of Omar Richards from Reading FC to add more depth in this area of defense.

At the moment, things are not so promising for Hernandez in Bavaria. However, his patience will eventually be rewarded since the squad is going to undergo changes in the summer. His peak years are ahead of him, so Hernandez can surely become a mainstay in Die Roten’s defense for years. Right now, he just needs to bide his time and pounce on whatever opportunities he gets in the next two months.
