David Alaba will be one of the biggest stars in European football to change clubs in the summer. The Austrian defender has already confirmed that he will be leaving Bayern Munich once his contract expires in June. Die Roten tried to secure his future, but ultimately, they chose to withdraw all offers in October.

Alaba has been linked with numerous top clubs across Europe. He can easily walk into any top team due to his versatility and quality. According to Kicker, Real Madrid is confident about landing the Austrian defender. Barcelona also remains in the mix, but Los Blancos are favourites to land him.

Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi also told Kicker that they will hold talks with other clubs too, and there is no deadline set for the transfer. Zahavi also confirmed that Spanish clubs are currently ahead in the race compared to other clubs in Europe. Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City have been previously linked with Alaba.

Fabrizio Romano has also once again reiterated on Sunday that David Alaba and Real Madrid have a verbal agreement. He also insisted that Los Blancos is the first choice for Alaba, but other clubs are still trying to sign him.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Austrian defender has been consistently linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past. There have been multiple reports suggesting Alaba would consider moving to Spain in the future, so it is no surprise that La Liga giants are leading the race to sign him on a free transfer.

Alaba is going to be a big miss for Rekordmeister since he has been a mainstay in central defense under Hansi Flick. The Austrian defender has been one of the most consistent performers for Die Roten in the last ten years. He initially excelled in the left-back position before moving in the heart of defense 18 months ago.

The German Champions decided against agreeing to his salary demands to make sure that there is a perfect balance maintained in wage demands. Die Roten wanted to avoid a situation where sanctioning Alaba’s desired contract might weaken their hand in negotiation for other contract renewals.

Bayern has been proactive in terms of finding a replacement for David Alaba. RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano will arrive in Bavaria when the summer window opens. The Frenchman has been regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe. Lucas Hernandez and Upamecano are likely to be first-choice central defenders for Rekordmeister next season.
