Bayern Munich blow away VfB Stuttgart at Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich delivered a remarkable performance to clinch 4-0 win against VfB Stuttgart after being reduced to ten men early in the game. Hattrick from Robert Lewandowski and a goal from Serge Gnabry were enough for the German Champions to clinch a fourth consecutive league win.
Hansi Flick was forced to make one change in the midfield as Joshua Kimmich missed out due to illness. David Alaba moved into midfield and Niklas Sule replaced Kimmich in the lineup. Lucas Hernandez made way for Alphonso Davies in the left-back position.
The visitors made two changes to the team that clinched win at home against Hoffenheim last weekend. Orel Mangala was replaced by Naouirou Ahamada in the midfield, while Philipp Forster made way for Tanguy Coulibaly.
Stuttgart made sure that it was an awkward start for Die Roten as the visitors pressed aggressively in the final third. There were few half chances created by the visiting side before getting a man advantage in the 11th minute. Alphonso Davies was sent off after intervention from VAR. The Canadian winger ended up stamping Wataru Endo’s feet.
Die Roten had previously capitulated in the Bundesliga after going a man down. However, it was a different scenario against Stuttgart. The home side went for the kill by overloading players in the final third. They were eventually rewarded with the opening goal in the 18th minute. Gnabry delivered a terrific cross from the left flank, which was met brilliantly by Lewandowski.
The game was put beyond Stuttgart in the next three minutes by Die Roten. Some lovely linkup play between Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller on the left flank. Sane eventually squared the ball to Gnabry in the box, and the winger did the rest to double the lead for Die Roten in the 22nd minute.

As Stuttgart was recovering from conceding two goals in four minutes, Lewandowski tripled the lead for Bayern. Muller delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right flank that was headed powerfully past the goalkeeper by the Polish striker.
The home side defended resolutely throughout the half, giving no chance to Stuttgart to get back into the game. On the break, the attacking players for defending Bundesliga champions were electric, playing one-touch passes to break down Stuttgart’s defense. Lewandowski rounded off an incredible half by completing his hattrick in the 39th minute. After pouncing on the second ball around the edge of the box, the Polish striker showed great footwork to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.
Stuttgart stepped up in the second half by pinning Die Roten in their half. The German Champions had to work hard to defend and close down spaces in the final third. Flick’s men looked devastating on the break as there were multiple chances that would have improved the scoreline, with Leon Goretzka coming closest with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box in the 81st minute.
Courtesy of this victory, the German Champions continue to stay at the top of the league table. The lead is back to four points as RB Leipzig had won against Arminia Bielefeld on Friday. Flick will be pleased to see a convincing display from the team despite being down to ten men for 80 minutes.
