After his strike against Bremen, Robert Lewandowski moved level with Klaus Fisher on 268 goals. Bayern Munich moved five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday after their 3-1 win over Werder Bremen with Lewandowski on target…. again. German duo Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry fired Bayern into a 2-0 lead before Lewy finished off the game with his somewhat fortuitous goal.
With his 67th minute goal, the Polish hitman increased his 2020/21 goal tally to 32 for the campaign and moved within eight of Gerd Muller’s record, and joined Fischer in second on the all-time charts.
As it stands there is only now one player in Bundesliga history who has scored more goals the Lewy and that is Der Bomber himself.
Heading into the clash with Werder Bremen, Lewy was on 267 Bundesliga goals and was sitting just one behind Fisher, and the way the chances were falling to him, it was only a matter of time before he found the net wasn’t it?. After hitting the post countless times, Lewandowski finally got the goal that moved him level with the Bundesliga legend.

When you look at the Polish international’s goals to games ratio, it makes you appreciate just how good his talents are. 268 goals to his name in just 345 Bundesliga games with a strike-rate of a goal every other match or 1.25 matches after doing the math’s thanks to Goal. When you compare that to the man who he just joined in Fischer, it took him 535 matches. Can you imagine what Lewy’s goal tally would be should he play 535 Bundesliga matches? My word it is terrifying just thinking about it.
Of his 268 strikes, 74 of them came in the yellow and black of Borussia Dortmund so at Bayern Lewy has been ridiculous in front of goals, scoring 194 in just 215 appearances.
Like a fine wine, Lewandowski is simply getting better with each passing year and he is on track to beat his goal tally from last season, but also take down Gerd Muller’s record as well. Whether he can maintain his current form as he will need a goal a game until the end of the season remains to be seen but you certainly would not put it past him.
When it comes to Der Bomber, the famous nickname given to Muller, his ability was just about unmatched, scoring 365 goals in his 427 Bundesliga matches during his time in Bavaria. At this time, Lewandowski’s ratio is better than Muller’s however father time will be calling soon with the Polish striker set to turn 33 in August.
Lewy would need three more seasons going at his current level of production to stand alone at the top of the goalscoring charts so it is a big ask, even for someone of his talents. He has continued on this pace for the entire campaign but can he do it for another three seasons as a 35,36-year-old? That would be tough but if anyone can do it, Bayern’s No.9 certainly can.
