Bayern Munich registered their 18th victory of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season against Werder Bremen on Saturday. The visitors scored two first-half goals and never looked back as they cruised to a 3-1 win.
It was a performance that featured three different goal scorers as Die Roten inch closer to recording another 100 goal campaign in the Bundesliga. Defensively, it was a strong display despite conceding a late goal. Here are the top three players from Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Bremen.
Thomas Muller
Muller played a major role offensively for Bayern. The veteran registered two assists as he set up goals for Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry. This was Muller’s first performance of the season where he has registered two assists in a single match. In addition to his two assists, the 31-year-old produced seven key passes which tied his season-high for most key passes recorded in a match.
With his two-assist performance, Muller increased his lead as the Bundesliga’s top assist leader. He has now registered 13 assists this season which is three more than teammate Joshua Kimmich who sits in second place. There’s no question Muller is the favorite right now to finish as the league’s assist leader. He needs just two more assists to register 15 assists or more for the second time in his career.

Robert Lewandowski
It almost seemed as if it just wasn’t going to be Lewandowski’s day to score his 32nd goal of the season. The striker came close on multiple occasions to scoring but he was denied by Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka, the crossbar, and the post. However, his moment finally came in the 67th minute when he scored from close range to record Bayern’s third goal of the match.
This certainly could have been a match where Lewandowski scored more than one goal but sometimes the post and crossbar aren’t your friends. Overall, he was a major threat in the second half of this match and put Bremen under constant pressure. Because of this, he certainly deserves to be praised for his performance even if he was unlucky not to score more.
Leon Goretzka
The Bayern midfielder scored for the second consecutive match and recorded his fourth goal of the Bundesliga season. Goretzka has been in fantastic form over the course of the last few matchdays.
In his last four appearances in all competitions, he has recorded two goals and four assists. If he can continue to deliver these types of performances then the 2020/21 campaign might go down as his best season to date since joining Bayern.
