Bayern Munich is closing in on another 100 goal season in the Bundesliga. Die Roten registered exactly 100 goals in the 2019/20 campaign and is currently 29 goals away from reaching this mark in the 2020/21 season.
With 71 goals scored in 24 matches, Bayern is currently averaging 2.96 goals per game which is a higher average than last season’s 2.94 average. If they continue to move this statistic to a higher average, then it will be a historic Bundesliga campaign.
Closing in on back-to-back 100 goal seasons
Consecutive seasons of 100 goals or more in the Bundesliga have never been done before by Bayern. Up until last season, the 1971-72 campaign was the only other campaign where Bayern registered 100 goals or more. The 1971-72 season saw Bayern recorded 101 goals in 34 matches which is the most goals scored by a Bayern team in a single Bundesliga season and a league record.
Bayern is headed in the right direction to produce another 100 goal campaign and they can also set a new record by surpassing the 101 goal mark set in the early 1970s. As long as they continue to score goals at a high rate then it could prove to be a historic season in the Bundesliga for Die Roten in terms of goal scoring.
Not only would this be a club record but it would also be the all-time Bundesliga record. As the season continues it will be a record to keep an eye on as 102 will be the magic number to look for in the goals scored column after Matchday 34.

Lewandowski leading the charge
There’s no question the goal-scoring success Bayern has displayed in the last two seasons has been led by Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker scored 34 of Bayern’s 100 goals in the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign and he has already registered 31 of Bayern’s 71 goals this season.
Lewandowski will go down as one the best strikers the league has ever had and helping Die Roten reach these new records is another testament to the impact he’s had during his time in the German top flight.
It would be fitting for Lewandowski to not only set the Bundesliga single-season scoring record this season but also help Bayern reach a club and league record in goals scored in a Bundesliga campaign.
If Lewandowski does indeed register over 40 goals this season, then the record should belong to the 2020/21 team. As long as he keeps scoring goals this record should be within reach on the final matchday of the season.
