Bayern Munich has the grit and skill to outlast RB Leipzig in title race
By Adam Schultz
After looking at the possible reasons behind RB Leipzig being a strong title contender, let’s shed some light on Bayern Munich in the title race this season. Die Roten has shown in recent times they are up for the fight when it comes to the Bundesliga, with RB Leipzig now their only challenger.
Having been labelled the comeback kings after their exploits in Der Klassiker, Rekordmeister has repeatedly shown that they are a force to be reckoned with. Numerous times they have fallen behind in games this campaign and sure it is a concerning theme, but the fact is that time and time again they manage to get themselves out of it and still somehow secure three points.
Just when it looked like Leipzig was going to stay at the summit of the Bundesliga, up stepped Leon Goretzka to break their hearts as he volleyed home with just minutes remaining. So often at this stage of the campaign, Die Roten has nearly had an unassailable lead, but this year, teams have seen a chink in their armour and more often than not, it has been exploited.
Despite this, even when sides do take a lead by one or two goals, Bayern almost clicks into gear and gets to work. Saturday’s result against Borussia Dortmund is a prime example. 2-0 down after less than ten minutes, Hansi Flick’s side essentially rendered Dortmund useless for the entire second half as they overwhelmed Edin Terzic’s side.
Even when their form dipped with a 3-3 draw to Arminia Bielefeld and then followed that up with a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern had their doubters. But seeing what has transpired since then just shows you what a frightening force they can be when they feel like it.
Heading into their Champions League tie with Lazio, many thought the Italians had a realistic shot at getting a positive result. Bayern flexed their muscles and ripped them apart in a frightening 47-minute spell which has effectively ended the tie, with the second leg null and void for the most part now.
They then followed that domination up by slamming five past FC Koln and although the match was not settled until late, it was still a five-goal performance. They then backed that up by destructively putting four past Dortmund.

Since they were declared a “wounded animal” Hansi Flick and his side over the last three matches have blasted in 13 goals and conceded just four, with two coming in quick succession against Dortmund.
Make no mistake about it, despite only holding a two-point lead in the title race, Bayern Munich is still very much favourites to claim yet another Bundesliga crown. Although RB Leipzig has been just as consistent as Bayern, to bet against a true juggernaut of world football would be foolish as they have an uncanny ability to flex their muscles when needed just to remind the world they are still a force to be reckoned with.
With just ten matches left in the domestic campaign, Bayern has proved time and time again that they are up for the fight and in truth, for RB Leipzig to genuinely have a chance at claiming the title, their showdown with the league leaders in April will have to be a must-win.
Bayern are still clear favourites to claim the title but with Leipzig pushing them all the way, the league leaders will have their work cut out to stay top, but at least we have an entertaining title race to watch unfold over the next couple of months.
