Bayern Munich was not giving up on the opportunity of signing a promising young goalkeeper for no transfer fee last summer when they agreed personal terms with Alexander Nubel. Eyebrows were raised when Nubel was signed since Manuel Neuer was in terrific form. However, Nubel’s entourage insisted that they were satisfied with the complete package, including playing time offered by Die Roten.

Things have not gone as per plan for Nubel in Bavaria this season. The young German goalkeeper has started only two games this season until now. Moreover, he suffered a serious injury at the start of February that has ruled him out for weeks.

Earlier this week, Nubel’s agent confirmed that the German goalkeeper needs more playing time. Moreover, reports in Germany also suggest that Die Roten is also looking at Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega to become Neuer’s deputy in summer.

Loan spell should not cast doubt on Nubel’s long term future

Signing a number two goalkeeper in summer doesn’t mean that it is the end of the road for Nubel in Bavaria. In his short career at Schalke, he has shown immense potential, and he is fairly young for a goalkeeper. His decision to join Die Roten is also understandable since playing for the best club in Germany is always a mouth-watering prospect for any young German player.

More from Bayern Strikes

Nubel can take inspiration from Serge Gnabry’s case at Rekordmeister. The young forward was signed by the club after one impressive season at Werder Bremen. However, he didn’t go straight into the team after signing the contract. Gnabry went out on loan to Hoffenheim for one season since Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were ahead of him in the pecking order in Bavaria. The German winger had a successful loan spell, and the rest is history.

Die Roten has to treat Nubel’s case very similar to that of Gnabry. After one year of training with Neuer, the German club needs to facilitate the progress of Nubel by sending him a loan spell. He should remain in the long-term plans of the club.

Bundesliga loan move should be favoured

Apart from Gnabry, Die Roten has not been good at arranging loan moves for young players at the club. In Nubel’s case, the German Champions and his representatives should do everything possible to arrange a loan spell to a good Bundesliga club. Staying in Germany will help him to keep developing in the league that he wants to play in the long run.

Moreover, they should also remain flexible with the terms of loan deals. Some of the players, such as Adrian Fein and Christian Fruchtl, have found it difficult at their loan clubs, but they were not recalled in January. Similar situation should be avoided in Nubel’s case, so a break clause would be beneficial for the player and Die Roten. Nubel has a lot of time on his side to fulfill his talent, so a good loan move in summer would do him a world of good after a difficult learning curve this season.
