Benjamin Pavard’s return comes at right time for Bayern Munich
It is a long week of training for Bayern Munich due to the absence of the midweek game after they were knocked out of DFB Pokal in the previous round. The German Champions are currently preparing for the big game this weekend as they host Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Die Roten received a massive boost on Wednesday as Benjamin Pavard returned to first-team training. The French defender has been out of action after getting tested positive for coronavirus. He had to undergo a period of isolation to completely recover from the virus.
Pavard has not been injured, so he is likely to be involved straight away this weekend. If he continues to train with the team until matchday, then Pavard should be part of the squad. With right-back being a tricky position for Die Roten this season, Pavard’s return is a big boost for Hansi Flick.
From the player’s perspective, the two-week-long break came at the wrong time. He has gone through a difficult run of form this season, but the Frenchman was getting back to his best before the isolation period. Pavard also scored the match-winner against Tigres in the final of the Club World Cup last month.

After Benjamin Pavard was tested for coronavirus, Flick started Bouna Sarr against Arminia Bielefeld. The former Marseille full-back failed to grab this opportunity, so Niklas Sule played in this position for the next three games. Sule’s performances were also mixed as he often struggled in one vs one situation on the flank and struggled to provide impetus in the final third.
The German international recovered well after a poor outing against Eintracht Frankfurt. Pavard’s return will help the team to become a much better team. With Leon Goretzka and Thomas Muller completely fit now, Pavard’s return will help Flick to build rhythm in his best starting XI ahead of an important phase of the season.
Pavard is likely to be rusty after not training with the team for two weeks. However, the schedule in March is not challenging since there are only four games across all competitions. This break between games will help Pavard to get his rhythm back.
Die Roten needs the complete squad fit to have a chance of defending the Champions League title. Benjamin Pavard makes the team more functional since he is more than a competent right-back, so Flick will be elated with his return. Other injured players such as Nianzou Kouassi, Douglas Costa, and Alexander Nubel are also expected to return to action this month. Corentin Tolisso is the only long-term absentee for Rekordmeister.
