Bayern Munich got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a resounding 5-1 win over FC Koln. It was one of the best offensive displays of the 2020/21 campaign for Die Roten. The defense still needs to get better, but attacking players continue to deliver goods.

The victory allows Bayern to remain atop the Bundesliga table ahead of the Matchday 24 clash with Borussia Dortmund. Two good performances in a week would be a big boost to the squad’s confidence after two poor results last week.  Here are three key stats from Saturday’s win over

A high conversion rate

Bayern were very effective when it came to finishing the opportunities that came their way. They registered a conversion rate of 35% which is the second-highest conversion rate they have recorded in a Bundesliga fixture this season.

Only the 8-0 victory over Schalke on Matchday One saw them register a higher conversion rate. Robert Lewandowski was clinical as usual and Serge Gnabry had one of his best matches of the season when it came to finishing. Gnabry has had multi-goal performances in both of Bayern’s matches this season where they have recorded their highest conversion rates.

More from Bayern Strikes

Muller takes assist lead

Thomas Muller had an instant impact after entering as a second-half substitute as he registered an assist on Lewandowski’s second goal of the match. His assist increases his season total in the Bundesliga to 11.

Muller’s 11 assists are now the top number in the league as he moves past teammate Joshua Kimmich who was tied with the veteran entering the match against Koln. Kimmich now trails Muller by one assist and Kinglsey Coman trails by two assists in the race for the Bundesliga’s top goal provider.

Goretzka’s first hat trick of assists

It was a Man of the Match performance from Leon Goretzka. The midfielder recorded three assists in a match for the first time in his career. There’s no question the 26-year-old was a key reason why Bayern were able to convert a high number of their scoring opportunities. He delivered pinpoint crosses and passes to set up his teammates for their goals.

Goretzka’s assist total for the 2020/21 Bundesliga season now stands at five which ties his career-high in the German top flight. Just one more assist and the midfielder will set a new career-best in assists in a single season. He’s averaging 0.35 assists per 90 minutes this season which is currently the best average of his career. If he can continue to produce assists at this rate then it will definitely be a career year for Goreztka when it comes to setting up goals.
