Bayern Munich had an exceptional performance on Tuesday night as they defeated Lazio 4-1 in Rome, Italy. The victory puts the Bundesliga club on the path to advancing to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern’s four away goals were a crucial part of the win as it now presents a very difficult challenge for Lazio to overcome in the second leg of the Round of 16 matchup. It was a complete team effort in this one with Bayern receiving goals from multiple players. Here are the top three performers from Die Roten’s 4-1 victory.

Robert Lewandowski 

Lewandowski opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he intercepted a back pass to Pepe Reina and dispatched the ball past the Lazio goalkeeper. The striker remained a threat throughout the match as he finished with three shots on target.

Reina produced two great saves to hold Lewandowski to just one goal but the Bayern star was clearly the most effective striker on the pitch. His season goal total in the Champions League now stands at four goals in five appearances.

Jamal Musiala 

The 17-year-old received an appearance in the starting 11 for this crucial opening leg of the Round of 16 matchup. He produced a terrific goal in the 24th minute when he fired a shot from outside the penalty area that went into the bottom corner of the net.

It was Musiala’s first career goal in the Champions League and he became the second-youngest player ever to score in the knockout phase of the continental competition. He proved he can score in big moments and Musiala stepped up for the club while Thomas Muller remains out of the lineup for the timing being.

Leroy Sane 

It was a strong performance from the winger as he scored his third goal of the Champions League campaign. Sane was a constant threat to the Lazio backline. He used his quick pace to record a goal of his own as well as an own goal that was created by a Sane cross.

One of his best moments of the match did not result in a goal but it was still very impressive. Right before halftime he somehow evaded a trio of Lazio players to set up a scoring opportunity for Joshua Kimmich. Overall, it was a great 89-minute performance from Sane as he finished with three shots and two key passes.
