Bayern Munich suffered their third defeat of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season on Saturday. Die Roten fell to Eintracht Frankfurt on the road as the hosts two first-half goals proved too much to overcome. The result will not see Bayern lose the top spot in the league but it does mean that the title race is far from over. Here are three key stats from the 2-1 loss to Frankfurt.

Low conversion rate

Bayern finished the match with a conversion rate of just four percent as they scored one goal from 22 shots. They had plenty of opportunities to level the scoreline but they were unable to convert these chances into an equalizer.

It really could have been a much different scoreline as the number of opportunities were there for Bayern to not only level the scoreline but also go on and win the match. This was a match where the absence of Thomas Muller was very apparent.

The German forward is Bayern’s second-highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season and is typically there to be a second source of goals behind Robert Lewandowski. There really hasn’t been a consistent third source of goals this season for Bayern in the Bundesliga and it has hurt them in matches such as this one.

Another multi-goal performance from Frankfurt

It was a night and day difference compared to the result of the first meeting between these two clubs. Bayern rolled to victory on Matchday Five when they defeated Frankfurt 5-0. Since that defeat, a lot has changed in Frankfurt’s form.

Adi Hutter’s men have lost just one match in their last 11 Bundesliga fixtures and have scored at least two goals in every single one of their last 10 league fixtures. Frankfurt entered this match as a club that was capable of defeating Bayern and their offensive production was on full display in the first half.

Frankfurt’s ability to produce a multi-goal performance without having their star striker Andre Silva in the lineup was the impressive aspect of their performance. Frankfurt proved they are the real deal with this victory and they continue to be one of the most exciting attacking teams in the Bundesliga.

Frankfurt not afraid to make challenges

Frankfurt registered the most tackles in the match by a healthy margin. They finished with 24 tackles compared to 10 for Bayern. The hosts were not afraid to make challenges throughout the match as they attempted 45 tackles. With this strong defensive effort, Frankfurt was able to frustrate Bayern while they were in possession. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
