Bayern had endured a torrid decade during the 1960s, so the return to the top of European football was much sweeter in the next decade. Moreover, the brand of football played by Die Roten during this dominant phase of their history was unique- high-intensity organised structural play in a 1-3-3-3 system in which Beckenbauer thrived as a Libero.
Along with European dominance, this Bayern side also managed to win four Bundesliga titles during this decade. The majority of players from that side also enjoyed glory on the international stage with Germany. The younger generation of Bavarian faithful will not be attached to this team, but the quality of players produced by Bayern at the time and amount of trophies they won in a short space of time makes them the best Bayern side of the last century.
