Bayern Munich clinched the sixth trophy in eight months on Thursday after a comfortable 1-0 win against Tigres in FIFA Club World Cup. Benjamin Pavard’s goal in the second half was enough for Die Roten to complete the sextuple under Hansi Flick.

Hansi Flick was forced to make two changes to the team that started against Al Ahly on Tuesday. Jerome Boateng returned to Germany for personal reasons, so Niklas Sule started in place of him against Tigres. Thomas Muller was tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The German forward was replaced by Leroy Sane in the starting lineup. The German manager also made one tactical change as Marc Roca made way for Lucas Hernandez. The Mexican side was unchanged from the semi-final victory against Palmeiras.

Tigres got the first chance of the game as Gignac’s header was blocked with ease by Sule. Die Roten started creating chances as they settled in the game. The intensity of press in the final third was much better than the last game against Al Ahly.

For Bayern’s perseverance and effort, they almost got the reward through a long-range effort from Joshua Kimmich. The German midfielder found the back of the net, but the referee ruled it out as replays showed that Robert Lewandowski was impeding the goalkeeper from an offside position.

The disappointment of not getting the goal didn’t affect Bayern as they kept on piling the pressure in the final third. Kingsley Coman’s long-distance effort was parried away brilliantly by the goalkeeper, while Sane rattled the post with a fierce strike.

More from Bayern Strikes

The European Champions kept on playing in Tigres’ half until the half-time whistle, moving the ball with purpose and creating good half chances. Die Roten had done almost everything right in the first half, but there were no goals to show for it. Tigres defended valiantly, putting bodies on the line to keep Bayern at bay.

Die Roten maintained the intensity in the second half as they pushed for the opening goal. Tigres showed more intent in the first couple of minutes, but the German Champions got back into settled shape quickly. They retained the ball well and gave no breathing space to attacking players of the Mexican side whenever there was a potential counter-attack.

The deadlock was finally broken around the hour mark by Pavard. The French defender found himself in striker’s position when Kimmich’s cross was deflected in his path by Lewandowski. The linesman had disallowed the goal for offside, but VAR came to Bayern’s rescue to give them much deserved lead.

After getting the lead, it was a professional display from Die Roten to clinch the victory. They didn’t stop attacking as Corentin Tolisso had two big chances to settle the game. The Frenchman’s initial chance was a misguided header from a set-piece, while the second attempt had rattled the post. Douglas Costa also had a venomous shot saved from close range by the goalkeeper.

Considering the way this game panned out, the scoreline was flattering for Tigres as Bayern dominated throughout 90 minutes. They defended resolutely on numerous occasions when Tigres got into half-decent positions in their box. A complete dominant performance in yet another final of a cup competition for Die Roten under Hansi Flick.
