Bayern Munich: Top three performers in 2-0 victory over Al Ahly

Bayern Munich booked their place in the FIFA Club World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Al Ahly. Tigres of Liga MX and the CONCACAF representative at the competition will be Bayern’s opponents in the final.

The semifinal was largely dominated by Die Roten and their offensive stars were front and center throughout the match. Robert Lewandowski’s two goals paved the way to victory as Bayern dominated offensively with 23 scoring attempts. Here are the top three performers from the win.

Robert Lewandowski

After failing to score against Hertha Berlin, Lewandowksi showed that performance was just an anomaly. The Polish striker scored two goals to deliver a Man of the Match performance as he showed once again why he is a top-class goal scorer.

Al Ahly’s backline struggled to contain the striker as he was able to find the space needed to make an impact on the outcome of the semifinal match. Lewandowski has now scored 28 goals in 27 appearances in the 2020/21 season. In the final, he will certainly be looking to deliver a masterclass to guide Bayern to yet another title.

Serge Gnabry

Gnabry set up Lewandowski’s first goal of the match as he registers his first assist since December. He showed great composure and awareness to pick out Lewandowski in the penalty area. The winger was creating trouble for Al Ahly on the wings with his pace throughout his time on the pitch. In the 24th minute, Gnabry nearly had another assist when he played in Marc Roca who sent his effort just wide of the net.

Later on, in the second half, he won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area as he drew a foul from the defender. Gnabry nearly scored himself with a header attempt in the eighth minute and a long-range effort that was saved by the Al Ahly goalkeeper in the 29th minute.

Leroy Sane

The second half substitute delivered the assist on Lewandowski’s second goal of the match. Bayern had struggled in the second half to find the final ball needed to double their advantage and Sane was the provider of the much-needed insurance goal.

After not recording a goal or an assist for Bayern in his last four appearances, the assist was a welcome sign for Sane. Against Tigres, the German winger will likely be called upon again to come off the bench and make an impact.
