Bayern Munich will face Tigres in the Club World Cup final on Thursday. This match will feature two prolific goal scorers in Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski and Tigres’ Andre-Pierre Gignac. The two forwards have produced incredible goal-scoring numbers in their recent respective seasons. For this reason, Thursday’s final promises to be an exciting match as it will feature two top-class goal scorers.

Goals galore for Gignac

Since moving to Tigres from Marseille in 2015, Gignac has been scoring goals on a consistent basis for Tigres in Mexico’s top division. According to Transfermakrt, the French forward has scored 147 goals in 246 appearances for Tigres which is an incredible goal-scoring record.

In his most recent campaign for the Mexican side, Gignac scored 11 goals in 17 appearances in the 2020/21 Liga MX Apertura. Gignac was a key contributor to Tigres’ success in the CONCACAF Champions League which earned them a place in the Club World Cup. He scored six goals in six appearances during the competition including the match-winning goal against Los Angeles FC in the final that allowed Tigres to claim the regional title.

There’s no question Gignac is one of Tigres’ best players and the Frenchman will be a player Bayern will have to defend well if they hope to avoid an upset in the final. He’s won numerous titles with Tigres and has scored in big moments to help deliver trophies to the Mexican club.

More from Bayern Strikes

Lewandowski can’t stop scoring

The Polish striker has been scoring goals at an incredible rate and is entering this final in tremendous form. Lewandowski has scored 28 goals in 27 appearances so far in the 2020/21 season. His 24 goals in the Bundesliga have come in just 19 appearances as he looks to set a personal record for most goals scored in a single domestic season.

Lewandowski has scored on a very consistent basis throughout his career. His 275 goals in 316 appearances for Bayern is just simply astonishing. After being named the FIFA Men’s Best Player of the Year for 2020, Lewandowski continues to be regarded as the top striker in the world. The Club World Cup would be yet another accomplishment for the 32-year-old striker.

Like Bayern will have to defend Gignac well, Tigres will be presented with the very difficult task of keeping Lewandowski from scoring in the final. Lewandowski caused trouble for Al Ahly in the semifinal as the Egyptian side allowed him the opportunities he needed to scored. If Tigres aren’t able to limit the high-quality opportunities that come his way, then it could be a very long match for the Liga MX club.

Who will be the top scorer?

Entering the final, Gignac is the competitions leading scorer as he has scored three goals. Lewandowski is close behind with his brace against Al Ahly. This will be an interesting storyline to watch during the final with both players vying for the top scorer spot in the competition. Another two-goal performance from Lewandowski would see him finish as the top scorer and it could prove to be the difference in the final outcome of the match.
