The winter transfer window was quiet for the majority of top clubs in Europe as finances have been tight due to the pandemic. The focus will be firmly on the summer transfer window to improve the squad for big clubs. Bayern Munich will also start working on plans for the summer window.

According to Spox, Bayern has identified three positions to improve in the next transfer window. Dayot Upamecano is the primary central defensive transfer target for the German Champions as they look to find a replacement for David Alaba.

This report insists that there could be another signing in the defensive department. Spox also says that Hansi Flick wants Jerome Boateng to stay at the club. The German Champions will hold talks with the player in the final months of the season. In case Boateng signs a new deal, Spox believes that one of Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez could be on their way out.

The other defensive signing could be left-back. Die Roten has been heavily linked with a move for Omar Richards from Reading during the winter transfer window. Richards will be a straightforward deal in the summer since his contract with the English club will end in June.

Adding a left-back may work if Die Roten is planning to use Lucas Hernandez as left center-back next season. The French defender has played in that position in the early years at Atletico Madrid. Richards and Alphonso Davies will fight it out in the left-back position, while Hernandez will play consistently in central defense.

Spox also revealed that the German Champions are also looking to improve midfield options by signing a central midfielder in the summer. Javi Martinez is leaving the club in the summer, while recent reports suggest that Corentin Tolisso may not have long-term future in Bavaria.

With these two possible departures looking likely, Bayern will definitely need a midfielder. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus has been linked with a move to Bavaria in Germany. The German midfielder reportedly has a fixed release clause of €40 million, so that transfer could be straightforward if the club has the finances to pull it off.

These three positions would improve Die Roten massively next season, and all players that have been linked with the club are affordable in the current climate. They will also raise some cash through departures and free up wage bill for new arrivals. Considering Richards will be a free transfer, maybe Bayern would also consider improving the attack too.
