Bayern Munich dismiss talk about signing Sergio Ramos
The transfer window always brings up the ridiculous type of transfer rumours. Bayern Munich also often gets linked with numerous players throughout the window. During the winter transfer window, the most ridiculous rumour was Sergio Ramos moving to Bavaria.
The Spanish center-back has been at Real Madrid for more than 15 years. His current deal with the Spanish champions is set to end in the summer. Reports across Europe have suggested that there is a considerable gap in the wage demands of Ramos and the deal offered by Real Madrid.
Despite entering the twilight of his career, Ramos still offers a lot on and off the pitch. The impasse in contract negotiations has fuelled rumours linking him to different top clubs in Europe. Bayern Munich has also lately reported as one of the clubs showing interest in getting Ramos on a free transfer.
It would be an uncharacteristic signing for Bayern since Ramos is an older player with very huge wage demands. Speaking to Sky 90 this weekend (via Marca), club director Oliver Kahn squashed the rumours involving Ramos. He praised the quality of players but ruled out a summer move for him.
"“As a player, I’d love to have played with Ramos, but there’s nothing in him coming to Bayern.”"

Ramos has been a magnificent center-back for Real Madrid over the years. He has been leading from the front on the pitch, scoring tournament winning goals for the Spanish club. However, Die Roten is looking to revitalise the back four with younger players rather than veteran players such as Ramos.
Kahn also heaped praise on Bayern target Dayot Upamecano. The French defender has emerged as a top transfer target for Die Roten in the summer transfer window. Earlier this week, Hasan Salihamidzic held talks with Upamecano’s representatives regarding a summer move.
Upamecano is likely to be the final piece of the defensive overhaul at Bayern that started in 2019 after the departure of Mats Hummels. The German club will have four-five good center-back options that have prime years of their career ahead of them.
Five years ago, Ramos on a free transfer would have been an exciting opportunity for Die Roten. However, the focus in the current climate should be building a squad that can deliver in the present and future. It would have been a massive surprise if Bayern had entertained a move for the Spanish defender. The club’s focus is firmly on signing Upamecano.
