Bayern Munich will be facing a tight title race in the Bundesliga this season. In the last two game weeks, Die Roten has taken a big lead by clinching two consecutive wins and other results going in their favour. However, it just takes a couple of poor performances to see the table flip completely.

RB Leipzig is the closest competitor for Die Roten as of now. Julian Nagelsmann’s men are seven points behind Die Roten, but they do face each other in Ruckrunde at Red Bull Arena. Other teams such as Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have lost pace in the title race due to poor performances.

Considering the strange nature of football this season with teams having ups and downs, one cannot rule out anyone in the title race. Bayern themselves have been inconsistent in the past six weeks in terms of performances, but they have been grinding out victories consistently.

Joshua Kimmich is not taking anything for granted, and he is expecting a tough battle from RB Leipzig. While talking to Bundesliga.com, Kimmich admitted that Leipzig plays an exciting brand of football, so they are the biggest threat to their title defense.

"“At the moment, it’s Leipzig. They’re second in the table and I think they play really good football. They concede fewer goals and always score more goals than their opponents.“They win their games – not always clearly but like us winning 1-0, ok not like us, we are not winning 1-0, we’re winning 3-2 or something like this because we concede more goals than Leipzig… but at the moment they’re really consistent and win their games, so they are our biggest rivals at the moment.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Leipzig has shown tremendous improvement under Nagelsmann in the past couple of seasons. They managed to reach the semi-final of the Champions League last season, which also involved knocking out Atletico Madrid from the competition.

Nagelsmann’s men also managed to get out of the group of death in this season’s CL. They managed to qualify ahead of Manchester United by beating them at Red Bull Arena on the final matchday of the group stage. Leipzig is one of the most defensively resolute teams in the league, along with blowing teams away in the final third.

Leipzig managed to take one point from the game at Allianz Arena in Hinrunde. Seven points is a decent lead for Die Roten, but Leipzig has enough quality to clear that lead and trouble Die Roten. They will be looking to beat Bayern on home turf later this season.

For now, Bayern will be focussing on the game against Hoffenheim on Saturday. Next month, Die Roten will be turning their attention to Club World Cup. In the Champions League, Bayern will be facing Lazio in the round of 16. Games will be coming thick and fast in the next three months, so competing on all fronts will take a special effort from this squad.
