It is quite evident that Bayern Munich will be losing David Alaba in the summer, so the attention will now shift to the future of Jerome Boateng. The German defender could also leave the club on a free transfer in the summer as time running down on his contract.
Boateng has been open to extending his stay at the club. The reports in Germany a couple of months ago suggested that Die Roten is not going to offer him a new deal. However, the club hierarchy is yet to publicly confirm such a decision.
Considering Boateng will be 33 next season, Die Roten may offer him one year deal rather than a longer deal. It remains to be seen whether the former German international would like a bigger deal since it is likely to be the last big contract of his career.
Boateng remains a vital part of the dressing room due to his enormous amount of experience at the club. In an interview with Sportsbuzzer, Thomas Muller urged the German club to keep Boateng beyond this season. Muller and Boateng have enjoyed a lot of success together for club and country in the last decade. They were part of both treble wins in Bayern’s history.
"“He’s currently with us. He still has a contract until the summer. With a signature on the right paper, that would be done for the future as well. Jerome has been by my side for a long time and it doesn’t hurt if he’s on a little longer watch out for me.”"

Flick will be eager to keep Boateng after the departure of Alaba. The squad already parted ways with Thiago Alcantara last summer, so a lot of experienced players leaving the club in a short space of time might be counterproductive.
From a sporting point of view, Boateng has been a reliable defender under Flick. He was on the fringes of the first team under Niko Kovac last season, but Flick reinstated back in the starting XI and got the better performances out of him. He was first choice center-back for Flick during Ruckrunde last season.
Considering Bayern is interested in signing Dayot Upamecano, Boateng will have a very reduced role in the squad next season. His experience will be vital in certain situations, but he will not be playing as regularly as he has done in the past 18 months.
Boateng has enjoyed a resurgence under Flick, so he might accept a reduced role next season. It remains to be seen whether the club will also offer a similar wage package that he is earning now. Nevertheless, it has been some turnaround for Boateng at Bayern, and him staying at the club longer doesn’t look like a bad idea as it did two years ago.
