Bayern Munich has no regrets about not signing Ivan Perisic
Bayern Munich made a tough decision to stop making further improved attempts to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. The Croatian winger was one of the key performers for Die Roten during the treble-winning campaign last season, but he had joined the German club on a one-year loan deal.
Perisic arrived at Bayern in 2019 after the club failed to complete the transfer of Leroy Sane from Manchester City. After a frustrating first half of the season, Perisic became an important player for Die Roten during Ruckrunde.
Hansi Flick decided to stick with Perisic in the quarter-final and semi-final of the Champions League. The Croatian winger repaid the faith of the German manager by scoring a decisive goal in the historic 8-2 win against Barcelona in the Champions League.
Flick wanted Bayern to sign Perisic permanently in the summer, but the two clubs struggled to reach an agreement over the transfer fee. Speaking to Bild this week (via fcinternews.it), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that the club has no regrets about not signing Perisic. He insisted that Die Roten got an even more interesting winger in Sane last summer.
"“We were hurt by Thiago Alcantara’s departure to Liverpool because he is a difficult player to replace, but Perisic and Philippe Coutinho were replaced well.”“As far as Perisic is concerned, we replaced him proudly with Sane, a more interesting player in the long term.”"

Rummenigge is probably not honest about this situation. Flick wanted another wide player even after the signing of Sane from Manchester City. The German Champions were reportedly not ready to meet fee demands put forward by Inter, so they decided to walk away from the deal.
Die Roten made late bids for Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi in the final weeks of the window, but the English club was in no mood to part ways with young English winger. The European Champions had to eventually settle on bringing Douglas Costa back to Germany on the final weekend of the transfer window. The Brazilian winger has joined on a one-year loan deal without an option to buy.
Considering Perisic had very well adapted to Flick’s methods, the Croatian’s presence in the squad this season would have been immense. He is a much better player than Costa at the moment, and he was also very productive in the final third last season.
Costa has made a minimal impact at Bayern this season. Flick is yet to trust him as his playing time has been very less in the first half of the season. One thing is certain that Perisic chapter at Bayern is over. The German club is likely to look for another young wide player next summer when Costa will return to Juventus.
