Bayern Munich registered their second consecutive victory in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 victory against Augsburg. It was not a comfortable victory for Bayern as Augsburg performed well in the second half to keep the match close.

When the final whistle blew, it was officially the halfway mark of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign. The narrow win allows Die Roten to remain four points clear at the top of the table. Here are the top three performers from the victory over Augsburg.

Robert Lewandowski

The goals continue to come from Lewandowski. His 13th-minute successful penalty conversion proved to be the deciding moment of the match and it was his 22nd goal of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign. In his last seven Bundesliga appearances, Lewandowski has scored 10 goals. At this rate, he will most definitely surpass Gerd Muller’s single-season record of 40 goals.

Without their star striker producing goals at this rate, Bayern may not have found themselves leading the Bundesliga at the halfway point of the season. For yet another match he was instrumental in getting all three points for Bayern. Lewandowski has certainly been the top performer for Bayern so far during the 2020/21 campaign. His clinical finishing ability has been absolutely phenomenal.

More from Bayern Strikes

Lucas Hernandez

The left-back started this match ahead of Alphonso Davies and took advantage of the opportunity with a fantastic performance. It was Hernandez who earned the penalty kick that Lewandowski eventually would convert as he was fouled in the penalty area by Rani Khedira.

Not only did Hernandez have an impact on the goal scoring, but he also stepped up to lead the way defensively with four tackles and three clearances. Hernandez played a key role in helping the club record their third clean sheet performance of the Bundesliga season.

Serge Gnabry

After exiting the match against Freiburg early with an injury, Gnabry made the quick return to the Bayern starting 11. He had a very good performance against Augsburg during the 66 minutes he was on the pitch. Gnabry led the way in shots on goal with two of his three shots being on target.

The winger nearly registered an assist in the 42nd minute when his cross found Lewandowski who hit the post with his effort. He would finish with the highest pass completion percentage out of all of Bayern’s attacking players. This was one of the best performances from Gnabry in 2021 so far.
