Bayern Munich is back to winning ways after defeating Freiburg on Matchday 16 of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season. Die Roten ended their two-match losing streak in all competitions with their 2-1 winning performance at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern was led by goals from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller as they registered their 11th win of the domestic campaign. The victory allows Bayern to increase their lead at the top of the table over RB Leipzig to four points. Here are the top three performers from Sunday’s match.

Thomas Muller

It was a man of the match performance from Muller. The Bayern veteran registered a goal and an assist in the victory over Freiburg. His 74th-minute strike proved to be the match-winning goal as he recorded his first goal in the German top flight since Matchday 10.

Muller continues to be the next best source of goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern aside from Lewandowski. The 31-year-old now has seven goals in 16 appearances in the Bundesliga this season.

More from Bayern Strikes

Robert Lewandowski

The goals keep coming for Lewandowski in the Bundesliga. A goal in the seventh minute from the Polish striker opened the scoring in the match and gave Lewandowski his 21st goal of the Bundesliga season. He was unlucky to not score more as he saw a shot hit the crossbar along with a well saved shot from Freiburg’s goalkeeper Florian Muller in the second half.

Lewandowski’s lone goal against Freiburg keeps his scoring streak alive in the Bundesliga. The Polish striker has been consistently delivering good performances during this rough run of form for the German Champions.

The 32 -year-old has now scored at least one goal in his last six appearances in the league. Incredibly, nine of Bayern’s last 14 goals scored have come from the star striker. When it comes to the race for the Torjägerkanone, Lewandowski keeps a healthy lead of nine goals over Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland after Matchday 16.

Leroy Sane

Sane continues to perform at a high level in January as the winger registered his second assist of the month. He has recorded at least one goal or one assist in all four of his appearances since returning from the winter break. Sane replaced Serge Gnabry in this match in the 27th minute as Gnabry had to exit early due to an injury. After replacing Gnabry, Sane went on to register three shots and record the match-winning assist on Muller’s second-half goal.
