Bayern Munich is reportedly close to sanctioning a loan deal for young striker.
The winter transfer window was always going to be quiet for Bayern Munich due to the effects of the pandemic. Moreover, it is difficult to get first choice transfer targets in January. However, the German club was expected to have few loan departures during this transfer window. First player that is looking likely to leave the club this month is Leon Dajaku.
According to Kicker, Leon Dajaku is very close to sealing a move to Union Berlin from Bayern Munich. The German outlet doesn’t confirm whether the nature of the transfer, but Bundesliga and Goal Journalist Ronan Murphy hinted that it is a loan deal.
Dajaku joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2019. The young German forward has been largely playing with the reserves team during his time in Bavaria. Dajaku made his debut for the senior team in December last year when Hansi Flick had multiple injuries in the attacking department. He ended up making two appearances last season, while this year, he is yet to get minutes on the pitch.
A loan move for Dajaku was on the cards during the summer window. There was reportedly a lot of interest from British clubs in Dajaku, but the German forward was not keen on a permanent transfer. It remains to be seen whether the situation is similar now.

Dajaku’s current deal at Bayern is set to expire in 2023. Die Roten might be open to a longer loan deal rather than a six-month loan deal. A longer deal will give the player a much stable environment to continue his development, so an 18-month loan deal will suit all parties.
Union Berlin is currently fourth in the league table, so they are likely to stay in the Bundesliga for at least one more season. Consistent playing time in the Bundesliga will help Dajaku to get valuable experience. Moreover, Bayern will also be able to understand whether Dajaku has a long-term future at the club. Even if they are not convinced after a decent spell, Die Roten could end up getting a good transfer fee for him in the future.
It will not be a big surprise if Dajaku has opted for a permanent transfer. The first team is very well stacked with attacking players. Most of the wide players are yet to enter the peak of their careers, while Robert Lewandowski and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are strikers in the squad, making it difficult for Dajaku to get consistent playing at the club anytime soon.
If Die Roten has sanctioned a loan move, then they should include a break clause in the deal. Clubs often don’t give players consistent playing time to players that have arrived on loan. Dajaku is at a stage of his career where he needs minutes under his belt at the senior level to take the next step in his development.
