Three things to watch for as Bayern Munich look to get back on track against Freiburg.

After suffering two consecutive defeats, Bayern Munich will look to get back to winning ways as they host Freiburg on Matchday 16 of the Bundesliga season. Despite winning both matches against Freiburg last season, defeating Freiburg this time around will be no easy task.

The visitors have been in excellent form as of late with not a single loss recorded in the Bundesliga since Matchday Eight. Here are three things to watch for ahead of Sunday’s match.

Bouncing back from big setback

It’s been a difficult last week for Bayern as they have lost two close matches. A narrow defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 15 saw Die Roten conceded three consecutive goals to lose 3-2. Five days later, they allowed a late equalizer before eventually losing to Holstein Kiel in penalties in the DFB-Pokal second round.

These results were difficult defeats but Bayern can get back on track towards a Bundesliga title with a victory against Freiburg. There’s still an opportunity for Bayern to extend their lead at the top of the table in January. After playing Freiburg, they should be heavily favored to win their remaining matches this month.

Freiburg looks to remain unbeaten

Freiburg has risen up the table in the last two months as they have taken at least a point away from their last seven Bundesliga fixtures. Entering this match, they have won five consecutive matches in the German top-flight to move up to the eighth place.

For this reason, Bayern will need to be at their best when they face Freiburg at home. They have scored at least two goals in all five of these victories with Vincenzo Grifo leading the way with five goals in his last seven Bundesliga appearances.

Freiburg has enough talent to score goals, which is bad news for a Bayern side that is struggling to record clean sheets. The German Champions have been struggling to stop goals in the past four-five weeks. Manuel Neuer has been saving them on numerous occasions, but he is yet to be rewarded with a clean sheet since the start of December.

Leroy Sane finding good form to start 2021

It’s been a great start to 2021 from Sane. The Bayern winger has scored two goals and registered one assist in his first three appearances of the new year. Against Freiburg, Sane has the opportunity to add to his goal total in the new year and continue to be impactful for Bayern. . He will be a player to watch in this one as he could prove to be a difference-maker in the final result of the match.
