Bayern Munich: Three key players in home clash against Freiburg
By Daniel Garza
Three key players for Bayern Munich as they face Freiburg on Matchday 16.
Bayern Munich will be looking to register a much-needed victory on Sunday after losing to Borussia Mönchengladbach and Holstein Kiel in the past week. They will face a Freiburg side on Matchday 16 who have won their last five Bundesliga fixtures.
Die Roten will be either defending or increasing their two-point advantage over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga table against Freiburg as they continue on the quest for another title. Here are three key players for Bayern when they go up against Freiburg on Sunday.
Robert Lewandowski
The star striker has performed very well in his last three appearances against Freiburg. Lewandowski scored in both of Bayern’s fixtures against Freiburg last season, which included a two-goal performance on Matchday 33. All three of those matches that Lewandowski scored in resulted in a victory for Bayern.
Lately, Lewandowski has been in fantastic goal scoring form as he has scored in every single one of his last five appearances in the Bundesliga. With Lewandowski entering this fixture in very good form, he should be one to watch as he looks to add to his season goal total.
Freiburg struggled to contain another prolific goal scorer Erling Braut Haaland earlier this season in a 4-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund. The Freiburg backline could be in for another long day when they face Lewandowski and Bayern on Sunday.

David Alaba
Freiburg has been scoring plenty of goals lately. In their last three Bundesliga matches, they have scored 12 goals. With Freiburg firing on all cylinders, this is going to pose a challenge to Bayern’s backline. Alaba will likely be tested in this match as Freiburg look to take advantage of Bayern’s high line.
Bayern needs a clean sheet result to get back on the right track defensively, and Alaba has the opportunity to lead the way towards a clean sheet against Freiburg with a strong performance. The Austrian defender has not exactly been at his best this season, but he has the knack of coming up with big performances under pressure.
Leroy Sane
Sane has been producing goals and assists since returning from the winter break. He scored against Mainz and registered an assist against Mönchengladbach. Against Holstein Kiel on Wednesday, he scored a terrific free-kick.
After not recording a goal or an assist in December, Sane is showing great form to start off 2021 and he could very well be on the scoresheet against Freiburg on Sunday. Keep an eye on the Bayern winger in this one.
