Bayern Munich reportedly not sure about Tiago Dantas’ long-term future at the club.

Bayern Munich is not going to make additions to the first-team squad during the winter transfer window. However, they will be able to add young talent to the first team squad this month. Tiago Dantas has been finally registered with the first team. The Portuguese midfielder’s long-term future remains in doubt, though.

According to Sport1, Bayern will not be signing Dantas permanently from Benfica in the summer. The Portuguese midfielder arrived in Bavaria on a one-year loan deal with the German club reportedly having an option to sign him permanently for €7.5 million. This report insists that Hasan Salihamidzic is not entirely convinced by Dantas.

Bild has also backed this claim and insisted that Salihamidzic has different ideas about Dantas. The Sporting Director is hesitant about signing him permanently in the summer, but a final decision is yet to be made regarding this transfer.

Hansi Flick was reportedly behind the transfer of Dantas in the summer. Spox reported this week that the German manager is not the only person at the club that pushed for the move. The scouting team under chief scout Marco Neppe had also extensively followed Dantas before giving the green light.

More from Bayern Strikes

Flick was frustrated on Tuesday when he was asked about reports regarding the future of Dantas in the pre-match conference for the DFB Pokal game against Holstein Kiel. The German manager insisted that a collective decision is always taken rather than one single person deciding the future of the young player. The academy and first-team are working together to get the better of young players.

Dantas is yet to make his first-team debut for Die Roten. The Portuguese midfielder has been getting playing time with the reserves team since joining the club in October. However, Salihamidzic might have not been convinced with the young midfielder during training sessions.

It is unlikely that such a decision will be made at the halfway stage of the season. Moreover, the transfer fee is very less, so it is surprising to see reports suggesting that Bayern has already made up their mind. In the case of Philippe Coutinho, it was clear after two months that he will not be signed permanently, but there are no such signs regarding Dantas.

Considering the amount of Portuguese talent flourishing across Europe, Bayern would be smart enough to buy Dantas and remain patient with him. He might look raw now, but in the long term, with the right development, he might become a pivotal player for the German Champions.
