Bayern Munich hit the road to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 15.
Arguably the most difficult fixture of the January schedule awaits Bayern Munich on Friday. They travel to Borussia-Park to face Borussia Mönchengladbach who currently sits in seventh place in the Bundesliga table.
Bayern will look to defend their lead at the top of the table as they occupy the first place with a two-point advantage over second-place RB Leipzig entering matchday 15. This match should be an exciting fixture between two of the Bundesliga’s top clubs. Here are three things to watch for ahead of Friday’s match.
Back and forth results
The last six Bundesliga meetings between Bayern and Mönchengladbach have gone back and forth. They have split their matches in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2019/20 seasons. With a 3-3 record for Bayern against Mönchengladbach in their last six Bundesliga meetings, this is a match they will have to be at their best if they hope to get all three points.
Victories have not been easy to come by against Mönchengladbach. The 2016/17 campaign was the last time Bayern defeated Mönchengladbach in both of their meetings in a Bundesliga season. Another important note is that Mönchengladbach has defeated Bayern in their first meeting of the season in the last two campaigns. This will be something to watch for as the hosts have done well recently against Bayern when they meet for the first time in a season.

Battle of the two top goalkeepers
Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer are two of the top goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. They will be on opposite ends of the pitch on Friday as they look to come away victorious.
Based on Bayern’s high offensive production, Sommer should have more to do in this fixture, but Neuer has been put to the test in recent weeks in multiple matches. Both goalkeepers will need to be at the top of their game in this one as their individual performances could tip the balance on the final outcome.
Will Lewandowski surpass 20 goals in the Bundesliga?
Robert Lewandowski is just one goal away from reaching the 20 goal mark in the current Bundesliga season. After yet another multi-goal performance last weekend against Mainz, he sits at 19 goals scored in the German top-flight entering this fixture.
The Polish striker has been in spectacular form as of late and another two-goal performance would add to his incredible campaign in the 2020/21 season. Reaching the 20 goal mark before the halfway point of the season is a testament to the impact he’s had so far.
