Top three moments of an eventful 2020 for Bayern Munich.

It has been a year to forget due to the painful coronavirus pandemic across the world. Bayern Munich did enjoy success on the pitch, which eventually gave fans great moments to remember amongst the gloom of the pandemic.

The German club dominated the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal to retain both trophies. They look set to win the league again as they went in the Hinrunde at the top of the table. Along with multiple trophies, Die Roten also played an attractive style of football. Since we are at the end of the year, let us look at the top three moments of the year.

Champions League win against PSG

The best moment of the year is surely the 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. The game took place at Estadio da Luz in August. Die Roten has been waiting for this moment since the CL triumph in 2013.

It was not an entertaining game as it turned out to be a cagey clash. Kingsley Coman will go down in Bayern’s history after scoring the winner in the second half. Since Die Roten suffered agony for more than six seasons in the CL, the victory in Lisbon was even sweeter. Even if Hansi Flick doesn’t win any more silverware with the team, he will remain a hero for the Bavarian faithful for bringing back European glory to Allianz Arena.

Thumping win against Barcelona

The second biggest moment of the year also came in the Champions League when Die Roten faced Barcelona in the quarter-finals. The tone of the game was set inside 10 minutes as both teams scored quickly. It was end to end stuff as the supreme attacking quality of both teams was on display.

Slowly and steadily, Bayern took control of the game and ran riot in the final third. They ended up with a staggering scoreline, putting eight past Marc Ter Stegen. It was Barcelona’s biggest defeat in CL history. Considering the painful exit against Barcelona in 2015, this win was more than sweet revenge.

Big home win against Atletico Madrid

Final moment on this list also consists of CL football. Die Roten has been starved of good CL moments, but 2020 provided numerous big wins in the competition. The 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid in the first group game of this season wraps up this list.

Die Roten needed a statement win to show that they mean business this season despite winning the treble last year. An opening day victory and the quality of performance against one of the competitors for the trophy showed that Flick’s players are hungry for more success. This performance and desire of players for more success is music to fans’ ears. Moreover, there were some brilliant goals in this game.
