Bouna Sarr has the mentality to succeed at Bayern Munich
Bouna Sarr believes that his strong mentality has helped him to play for Bayern Munich.
Hansi Flick consistently insisted throughout the summer that Bayern Munich will need a right-back and additional winger to complete the squad. The club managed to get these two transfers in the final weeks of the window. For the right-back position, Bouna Sarr arrived from Marseille.
Sarr was not the first choice right-back option for Die Roten. They had done enough groundwork since the winter transfer window to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax, but they eventually lost the player to Barcelona. Norwich City’s young full-back Max Aarons was also briefly linked with Bavaria.
The signing of Sarr was straightforward as Marseille didn’t want a hefty transfer fee. Moreover, Die Roten were also loaning Mickael Cuisance to the French club after the young midfielder failed medical tests at Leeds United.
Since arriving in Bavaria, Sarr has not made an instant impact. Injuries have not allowed Sarr to get some sort of consistency in his performances at Bayern. During an interview with Bayern Munich’s website, Sarr admitted that his strong mentality has helped him to get a move to Bavaria, and this mentality will help him to enjoy more success in the future.
"“During the ups and downs, I learned it is always essential to produce your best performance. At every level and regardless of circumstances: It’s about your own level and there are no excuses.”“I have consciously appreciated every step of my career. And I think being here at Bayern now is a bonus for never giving up. I’m strong mentally and I’m not easily put off. That’s something you need to be of interest to a club like FC Bayern.”"

Sarr’s strong mentality will help him to give good competition to Benjamin Pavard in the right-back position. Pavard has largely been the first choice right-back for Die Roten since joining the club VfB Stuttgart in 2019. He prefers playing in the central defense, so Sarr’s presence will allow him to play in his favourite position.
In the first half of the season, Sarr has managed to get eight appearances for Bayern across all competitions. He had one assist to his name during these eight appearances. The French full-back could have played much more in the last couple of months, but muscle injuries have kept him out for weeks. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
There is much more to come from Sarr in the second half of the season. He also allows Flick to deploy a three-man defense where he will act as the wing-back on the right flank. Such tactical flexibility will help Die Roten to outwit good teams in Europe.
While going forward, Sarr has looked tidy in limited appearances. However, he has looked weaker while competing in the aerial. Throughout his career, Sarr has managed to come stronger from set-backs, so there is no doubt that he will turn out to be a good signing for Die Roten.
