Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee should prefer a Bundesliga loan move over others.
It has been a disappointing campaign for Joshua Zirkzee at Bayern Munich. After getting promoted to a higher squad number and promising game time last season, Zirkzee has failed to get a nod in the first team this season.
The arrival of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made it difficult for Zirkzee to get game time under Hansi Flick. The young Dutch forward primarily operated as a backup striker to Robert Lewandowski last season. It looks certain that Zirkzee will be going out on loan during the winter transfer window.
Zirkzee might be disappointed after making promising strides in the first team last year. However, his next step will be a defining one if he wants to become a successful player in Bavaria. A good loan move will help him to come back strongly and challenge for a place in the first team.
As of now, Sky Germany (via transfermarktweb)is reporting that Feyenoord and FC Koln are the two teams showing great interest in Zirkzee. The Dutch forward came very close to joining Feyenoord in summer, but a move didn’t materialise on the deadline day.

The better choice of these two clubs will be FC Koln. Staying in the same league as Bayern will help him to get more exposure at the top level. Eredivisie helps in developing young players, but experience in Germany will be better for Zirkzee’s chances of making it in Bavaria.
However, Bayern should be making sure that enough game time is promised to the Dutch forward if he joins FC Koln. The situation of Christian Fruchtl at FC Nurnberg shouldn’t be repeated with Zirkzee. Fruchtl left Bayern in the summer to get regular playing time, but he has been considered as second choice goalkeeper in Nurnberg.
Zirkzee is not the finished product, but he has shown enough qualities to be an important player for Die Roten in the future. The European Champions managed to arrange a very good loan spell for Adrian Fein in Germany, so they should be encouraged to push Zirkzee towards a Bundesliga club rather than Feyenoord.
Bayern might be blamed for Zirkzee’s lack of playing time this season. However, Flick might need a much more experienced striker since he will be heavily rotating the squad. Moreover, there are better options in wide areas compared to Zirkzee. It has been a tough learning spell for the youngster, but a good loan move in the Bundesliga will help him to take the next step in his development.
