The top five performances from Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry in 2020.

Another year is in the books at Bayern Munich for Serge Gnabry. The German winger concludes a largely successful year helping lead Bayern’s attack. Gnabry finishes 2020 with 16 goals and six assists in all competitions.

The German forward was also handed the number seven kit this season after establishing him as one of the best wide players in Europe. In the past few weeks, Gnabry’s form has dipped a bit. Nevertheless, he has become an important player for Hansi Flick.  Let us look at his five best performances in 2020.

#5 vs. Barcelona

It was a memorable victory when Bayern defeated Barcelona 8-2 in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Die Roten routed their opponents en route to their Champions League title. Gnabry was involved in the scoring spree Bayern went on as he registered a goal and an assist against Barcelona. He scored his lone goal in this match in the 27th minute with a great finish after a stellar pass from Leon Goretzka. Just minutes before his goal, Gnabry assisted on Ivan Perisic’s goal in the 21st minute.

#4 vs. Paderborn

Gnabry played a role in every goal scored against Paderborn on matchday 23 of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season. The Bayern winger registered one goal and two assists to help guide Die Roten to a 3-2 victory. He opened the scoring in the 25th minute and then went on to pick up assists on both of Robert Lewandowski’s goals in the final 20 minutes of the match. Along with his goal and two assists, Gnabry recorded five shot-creating actions and three goal-creating actions.

#3 vs. Schalke

A hat-trick against Schalke has been arguably the best performance of the 2020/21 season so far from Gnabry. It was his only hat-trick of 2020 and was the perfect start to the campaign. He scored the first goal of the match in the fourth minute and went on to score two more in the 47th and 59th minute.

The German forward was unplayable on the day, skipping past players for fun and showing a ruthless streak in front of the goal. On his day, Gnabry can cause opposition defense all sorts of problems.

#2 vs. Chelsea

The first leg of the Champions League round of 16 matchup against Chelsea saw Gnabry register a two-goal performance. Gnabry scored his two goals in quick succession in the 51st and 54th minute in the 3-0 victory. This helped set up Bayern for a dominant result against their Premier League opponents over the course of the two legs.

#1 vs. Lyon

Two goals from Gnabry against Lyon sent Bayern to the Champions League final to face Paris-Saint Germain. His first goal of the match was a terrific strike as he dribbled through the Lyon defenders and curled home a fantastic shot.
