The top five Thomas Müller performances for Bayern Munich in 2020.

It was another memorable year at Bayern Munich for Thomas Muller. The veteran was a key contributor to the five titles Bayern won during 2020. He finished the year with 18 goals and 22 assists in all competitions. There were many great moments and performances from Müller throughout the year. Here are his top five performances in 2020.

#5 vs. Hoffenheim

The DFB Pokal Round of 16 match against Hoffenheim saw Müller record a goal and an assist to help Die Roten advance to the quarterfinals. Müller started the match off by forcing an own goal from Hoffenheim in the 12th minute and then he added a goal of his own in the 20th minute.

The German forward would register his assist on Robert Lewandowski’s 36th-minute goal. Müller played a role in every goal scored in the first half as Bayern took a commanding 3-0 lead. Hoffenheim ended up reducing the deficit late in the second half to one, but Müller’s first-half production was too much to overcome as it finished 4-3.

#4 vs. Eintracht Frankfurt

On matchday 27 of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, Müller scored a goal and an assist to help guide Bayern to a 5-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. He set up Leon Goretzka’s opening goal of the match and then scored a goal of his own to make it 2-0. According to Football Reference, Müller registered nine shot-creating actions during his appearance against Frankfurt. This was one of his highest shot-creating action totals of the entire year.

#3 vs. RB Leipzig

A two-goal performance against RB Leipzig on matchday 10 of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season helped ensure Bayern earned at least a point from this fixture.

Müller scored the second and third goals of the match for Die Roten in their 3-3 draw with Leipzig. Although he’s normally dishing out the assists, this match saw him display his goal-scoring ability. He has been a creative force for the team throughout the year, so his improvement in front of the goal has gone under the radar.

#2 vs. Arminia Bielefeld

The dynamic duo of Müller and Lewandowski was on full display in this win over Arminia Bielefeld. Müller scored two goals in this match and help set up one of Lewandowski’s two goals. Lewandowski returned the favor later by assisting on one of Müller’s two goals. Overall, it was a dominant performance from Müller as Bayern cruised to a 4-1 victory.

#1 vs. Barcelona

Müller was heavily involved in Bayern’s incredible 8-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. He recorded two goals and one assist in the victory that help advance Bayern to the semifinals and then an eventual Champions League triumph in the final. Müller opened the onslaught of scoring with the first goal of the match in the fourth minute and then would add another goal in the 31st minute. His performance against Barcelona would be capped off with an assist on Philippe Countinho’s 85th-minute goal.
