Bayern Munich: Winter break comes at the right time for Kingsley Coman
Bayern Munich winger Coman gets ample time to recharge batteries for the second half of the season.
It was a glorious weekend for Bayern Munich as they clinched an important and thrilling 2-1 win against title rivals Bayer Leverkusen in Leverkusen. Things didn’t go smoothly, but the defending champions showed the grit and mentality to turn the result in their favour.
The biggest negative from the trip to Leverkusen was the injury to Kingsley Coman. The French winger came off in the 32nd minute due to a hamstring injury. It was a setback in the context of the game as Coman was playing well for Die Roten.
Earlier today, Bayern brought relief for fans by releasing an update on Coman. The club confirmed no serious injury for the French international as a scan revealed a strain in his left hamstring.
The winter break is likely to be enough for Coman to complete the recovery and be ready for the home game against Mainz on January 3. After Robert Lewandowski, Coman has been the most important attacking player for Die Roten this season.

Coman will get much-needed rest in the next two weeks after playing almost every game since the last international break in November. He has been troubled with muscle injuries in the past few seasons, so an injury is always around the corner when there is an accumulation of fatigue.
The break will ensure that Flick will have a much fresher and fitter Coman for the second half of the season. Die Roten has been playing two games every week since the start of this campaign, so muscle injuries have been an issue for all clubs in Europe. Bayern was without Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies for weeks due to serious injuries, while Corentin Tolisso and Leon Goretzka also had a fair share of muscle injuries.
On the pitch, Coman has stepped up this season. The winner against Paris Saint-Germain has turned out to be a game-changer for the French winger. He looks much calmer in the final third, which eventually helps him to make the right decision. There have always been doubts about his end product, but this season he has handsomely answered his critics.
Several eyebrows were raised, including me when there were reports about the new contract for Coman. However, the performances of Coman in the past six months should force the club’s hand to secure his future. Manchester United was reportedly interested in Coman last summer, but there is no chance that Die Roten will even entertain offers for him in the near future.
