Three things to watch as Bayern Munich host Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Matchday 12 of the Bundesliga will feature a matchup between two clubs currently in the top four places. Bayern Munich will welcome Wolfsburg to the Allianz Arena in a key fixture for both clubs. Wolfsburg enters this match having yet to register a defeat in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

Bayern will be looking to build toward regaining the top spot in the German top flight after back-to-back draws against RB Leipzig and Union Berlin. Here are three things to watch ahead of Wednesday’s match.

Lewandowksi vs. Weghorst

Two of the top strikers in the Bundesliga will feature in this match. Bayern’s Robert Lewandowksi currently leads the league in goals with 13. Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst is close behind with nine goals scored so far this season. With both players entering this match in good form, they should have an impact on the outcome of this fixture.

Weghorst has scored just once against Bayern in the Bundesliga and did not score against Die Roten during the 2019/20 campaign. Lewandowksi has scored five goals in his last four appearances against Wolfsburg. If history repeats itself, then Lewandowski should be the one who has a bigger impact in this match.

More from Bayern Strikes

Wolfsburg look to remain unbeaten

The visitors will have the difficult task of keeping their undefeated season alive and well. Wolfsburg have won three of their last four matches and their good run of form should have them confident they can take away at least a point against Bayern.

However, after losing twice to Bayern last season it will no easy task to get a positive result from this fixture. Having yet to play Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, and Leipzig, Wolfsburg will be facing one of their toughest opponents so far in the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign when they face Bayern.

Goals from the wingers

While Kingsley Coman has been fantastic for Bayern as of late, the other wingers have struggled to register goals and assists. Serge Gnabry has not scored since matchday six and has yet to register an assist this season. Leroy Sane found the back of the net on matchday seven but has been unable to record a goal since then. When it comes to assists, Sane recorded an assist against Stuttgart on matchday nine but was unable to produce one in the recent draws to Leipzig and Union Berlin.

If Bayern can get offensive production from Gnabry and Sane this week then they should fare very well against Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen. Coman can’t be the sole source of assists moving forward and eventually one of these two players will have to begin to produce to help Bayern continue to win matches. There’s no better time for these players to regain their form than this week when there are two critical matches on the schedule.
