Player ratings from Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Union Berlin.

Bayern Munich players endured a difficult evening in Berlin as they were held for a 1-1 draw by Union Berlin. There were mixed performances for Die Roten as they are now level on points with RB Leipzig. Here are the complete player and manager ratings from matchday 11.

Manager Rating

Hansi Flick-6/10

There were a few surprising selections in the starting 11 from Flick. Alphonso Davies started for the second consecutive match and Jamal Musiala occupied a midfield role ahead of Marc Roca. Aside from these selections, Bayern Munich’s usual suspects were in the starting 11.

Flick ended up only using three substitutes and left both Lucas Hernandez and Roca on the bench. The midfield was one of the big issues in this match and the absence of Joshua Kimmich continues to be on display. If Bayern continues to struggle in the midfield in the upcoming matches then there could be more dropped points.

The fixtures in the coming week against Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen will be crucial for Flick and Bayern to get points in. So far in December, they have taken just two points from their two fixtures. This is a crucial month of the season with a difficult schedule against some of the Bundesliga’s best clubs. They can’t afford similar results in the next week or they will likely be out of first place entering 2021.

Player Ratings

GK, Manuel Neuer-8/10

Neuer was called into action immediately in this match. He made what proved to be a pivotal save in the first minute. The Bayern goalkeeper went on to make a total of four saves in this match and he made multiple clearances at the back in his usual sweeper-keeper style. This was yet another match where Neuer was influential in helping Bayern avoid defeat.

DEF, Jerome Boateng-6/10

It was not the best performance for Bayern’s center backs as Union Berlin were able to get in behind the backline on a few occasions. Boateng finished with three clearances and one blocked shot. He completed 77% of his 112 passes and was accurate on 12 of his 26 long ball passes.

DEF, David Alaba-6/10

Alaba and Boateng struggled to contain Union Berlin’s runs in behind the high backline. Bayern was fortunate that a chance from the home side in the 22nd minute did not find the back of the net. However, Alaba slid in to close down the angle and did just enough to throw the attacking player off as he sent his shot wide. The defender finished with two clearances and one shot.

DEF, Benjamin Pavard-7/10

Pavard was one of the stronger players on the backline. He finished with one tackle and two interceptions. When it came to passing, Pavard had the fifth-highest completion percentage by finding his target on 82% of his 67 passes.

DEF, Alphonso Davies-6/10

Davies did not match his performance against Lokomotiv Moscow mid-week, but to be fair he has had a very quick reintroduction into the starting 11 since returning from an injury. He had a rough first half as a turnover in the 22nd minute almost led to a goal and he picked up a yellow card in the 37th minute.
