Bayern Munich reportedly wants young French midfielder to replace Javi Martinez.

Midfield has been one of the strongest areas for Bayern Munich in the last few seasons. The German Champions suffered a big blow in the summer as Thiago Alcantara refused to sign a new contract and left for Liverpool. Die Roten did sign Marc Roca from Espanyol, but he is yet to get consistent playing time under Hansi Flick.

After Thiago’s departure, Bayern will be losing Javi Martinez next summer. The club has not opened talks with the player for a new deal, while Martinez wants to experience a new league when his contract expires next summer. The German Champions have reportedly started searching for Martinez’s replacement.

According to France Football (via Foot Mercato), Bayern is interested in signing Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennais in the summer. The 18-year-old French midfielder is considered one of the best young midfield prospects in Europe. Camavinga’s impressive performances at the club level have helped him to get a callup to the national team already.

In summer, Camavinga will be entering the final year of his contract at Stade Rennais. Even though the French club will have a weaker hand in negotiations due to the player’s contract situation, the transfer fee for the midfielder is likely to be close to €50 million. Moreover, numerous top clubs are interested in Camavinga, so a bidding war should be anticipated.

More from Bayern Strikes

Camavinga can play as a deeper midfielder, but he is at his best when operated in the box to box midfield role. The teenage midfield sensation can carry the ball with ease through his astute dribbling ability. Along with a good ball carrier, Camavinga can also play the killer pass and pop up with absolute belters.

It will be a massive coup for Die Roten if they can sign Camavinga in summer. He is unlikely to be the first choice option straight away, but there will be considerable playing time for him if he is the deputy for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Bayern has a good sporting project, so convincing Camavinga on that front will not be an issue.

Die Roten will have to make sure that they have a proper plan for Camavinga’s development as they struggled to get the best out of Renato Sanches few years ago. The Portuguese midfielder was one of the best young prospects in Europe at that time but couldn’t continue his development in Munich.

Camavinga recently switched agents, so there will be more clarity about his future in the coming months. It does look certain that he will be leaving in the summer. Camavinga will not be a like for like replacement for Martinez, but Die Roten can fill his void by adding more tenacity to the midfield by signing the French midfielder.
