Bayern Munich host RB Leipzig on Saturday in a crucial Bundesliga fixture.

The top two clubs in the Bundesliga will meet on Saturday at the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich will look to stay atop the table as RB Leipzig enter this fixture two points behind Die Roten in second place. After both meetings last season ended in draws, these two clubs will be in search of all three points to gain an advantage over their opponent. Here are three things to watch ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

The best offense vs. the best defense

Bayern has scored the most goals in the Bundesliga with 31 goals in nine matches, while Leipzig has conceded the least amount of goals with six goals allowed in nine matches. As a result, this match will feature the club with the best offense in the league against the club with the best defense.

It will be interesting to see if Leipzig will be able to keep Bayern from overpowering them on the attack. They have done well in the Bundesliga but have conceded often in the UEFA Champions League.

Against Manchester United, they fell to a 5-0 defeat in October and this week they conceded three goals to Istanbul Başakşehir. They will not want to replicate any of these performances against Bayern who have been ruthless when it comes to goal-scoring. Leipzig should be encouraged they were able to hold Bayern to just one goal last season in the two meetings they had.

More from Bayern Strikes

A well-rested Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski did not make the trip to Madrid for Bayern’s mid-week Champions League fixture. As a result, he will come into this match well-rested. Hansi Flick left the striker out of the lineup in order for him to recover from the rapid-paced schedule of the 2020/21 season.

Lewandowski could prove to be the difference-maker in this fixture as he should be in top form entering this match. There could be another masterclass performance from the Polish striker on the big stage.

Olmo vs. Müller

Two of the top shot and goal creating players in the Bundesliga will feature in this match. Leipzig’s Dani Olmo leads the Bundesliga in goal-creating actions and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes. For Bayern, Thomas Müller leads the German top flight in shot-creating actions. There’s no question these two players are among the best when it comes to creating offensive opportunities. Whichever player has the better performance on Saturday could very well impact the outcome of the fixture.
