Predicted starting XI for Bayern Munich when they travel away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
After a hard-fought win against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich shifts their attention to Champions League action. The German club is set will be travelling to Spain to face Atletico Madrid on matchday five of the Champions League.
Die Roten sealed a place in the round of 16 last week by beating Red Bull Salzburg at Allianz Arena. The draw between Atletico Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow meant that Bayern would win the group irrespective of what happens in the last two matchdays. Hansi Flick is likely to make numerous changes to the lineup against Atletico Madrid, so let’s predict the team that could start at Wanda Metropolitano.
Who is available for Bayern Munich?
There is a number of notable absentees for the trip to Madrid. Flick confirmed that Manuel Neuer, Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, and Corentin Tolisso will be rested for the game on Tuesday. Tolisso had suffered a minor knock during the win against Stuttgart. Bouna Sarr will also miss this game as he continues to recover from a muscle injury.
Marc Roca is set to miss the game in Madrid due to suspension. Alphonso Davies continues to train on the grass, but he is still a few weeks away from featuring in matchday squads. Joshua Kimmich is likely to return back to action in January. Plenty of senior players are not available, so Flick confirmed that some players from reserves will travel with the squad.

Predicted Starting XI for Bayern Munich
Neuer finally gets well-deserved rest after consistently delivering top performances last week. Flick has confirmed that Alexander Nubel is set to make his Champions League debut for Bayern on Tuesday. It is a big game for the young goalkeeper as gametime is difficult to come by when Neuer is your competitor.
In the defense, Niklas Sule is likely to get a start against Atletico Madrid. The German defender recovered from a knock and came off the bench against Stuttgart on Saturday. Sule will partner David Alaba in the heart of the defense. Benjamin Pavard will slot in the right-back position, while Lucas Hernandez will occupy the left-back position against his former club.
Javi Martinez has been declared fit to play against Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard was struggling with an injury at the end of the game on Saturday, but he has recovered in time for the CL game. Martinez will start in the number six position. There are no obvious partners in midfield for Martinez, so Flick may decide to play him as the only midfielder on the night.
Ahead of Martinez, Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala are likely to be the two attacking midfielders. One of them will often drop deep and help in the build-up, while the other is likely to take up positions higher up the pitch. Leroy Sane and Douglas Costa are likely to start on flanks, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will lead the line for the European Champions.
