Bayern Munich: Top three performers at VfB Stuttgart
Top performers for Bayern Munich in the narrow win away at VfB Stuttgart.
Bayern Munich got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga on Saturday after dropping two points at home against Werder Bremen last weekend. The German Champions had to work hard to get all three points against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday as the home side went toe to toe with them.
The victory will see Die Roten remain on the top of the Bundesliga table. Borussia Dortmund’s defeat at home against FC Koln meant that they once again move four points behind Die Roten. All Bayern players across the pitch had to work hard to defeat Stuttgart. Here are the top three performers for Die Roten that played a big role in clinching the win on Saturday.
Kingsley Coman
Kingsley Coman has found a new gear in his performances since scoring the winner against Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League final last season. The French winger was a livewire for Die Roten in the final third against Stuttgart, providing width to create space for others and often cutting inside to test the goalkeeper.
Coman managed to unleash a venomous shot in the first half to bring Bayern on level terms with the home side. The French international also grabbed an assist for Robert Lewandowski’s goal. Coman is improving decision making in the final third, showing maturity in his game. As the season goes on, he is likely to become an even more important player for Die Roten.

David Alaba
The defense has been struggling for Die Roten in the past couple of games. The back four found it difficult to contain with Stuttgart’s counter-attacks on Saturday. After a poor first half, the defense dug deep and kept Stuttgart at bay. David Alaba played a big role in marshaling the troops during the second half.
The Austrian defender made three tackles, three interceptions, and one clearance during the game, most defensive actions in the back four. Alaba has been scrutinised for poor performances this season, but he was rock solid against Stuttgart. Hopefully, he continues to deliver such performances consistently from now. Douglas Costa
Leroy Sane has been the impact substitute for Bayern this season. However, Douglas Costa had a bigger impact from the bench against Stuttgart. The Brazilian winger opened his account for the campaign with a powerful low drive in the 88th minute to seal the victory for the visitors.
Costa was a bit wasteful with the ball during his cameo, but he was always the outlet on the break. Due to his ability to hold on to the ball longer, Bayern were able to sustain attacking moves in the final third. He has been knocking on the door for a goal in the past few games, so it was good to see him score an important goal to ease the pressure on the German Champions.
