Robert Lewandowski has enough in his tank to stay beyond his contract at Bayern Munich.
After a tremendous season at both individual and team level, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is getting plaudits from across the globe. The Polish striker won UEFA’s best player of the year award and finished first in Goal 50 for his remarkable performances last season.
Lewandowski delivered the best season of his career at the age of 31. He managed to score 55 goals across all competitions, which also included a staggering 15 goals in the Champions League. The Pole silenced all the critics that often said that he could not deliver for Die Roten against big teams in Europe.
Along with scoring consistently, Lewandowski also showed remarkable improvement in his overall playing style. He was leading the intense press from the front and often worked hard when the opposition was dominating the possession. Moreover, his creativity around the box gave Die Roten another dimension in the attack.
Lewandowski deserves all the praise he is getting for last season. However, he has not rested on his laurels and started the new campaign with a similar focus and hunger. Speaking to AP this week, Lewandowski hinted that he could have a long career, but he is not thinking about the future too much right now.
"“Now I have the contract until ’23 and I never think what’s happening after. Two-and-a-half years more contract. So it’s a lot of time and I know that I can play longer but I have enough time to think about this.”"

The fitness of Lewandowski has also not been a concern for Die Roten. Along with his technical excellence, he is available for almost every game. The Poland international has been strictly following a good diet and fitness regime, allowing him to have a stronger endurance to play most games.
Considering the dedication towards fitness, Lewandowski is improving even after going past the age of 30. Most attacking players see a dip in numbers after the age of 30, but Lewandowski is showing improvement. He has previously insisted that he wants to play at the top level for at least four more seasons, which is likely to be by the age of 35.
Bayern will also play a big role in extending Lewandowski’s career past the mid-30s. The German Champions are managing his playing time this season as the schedule is even busier than the usual campaign due to a late start to the season. In the upcoming seasons, the German club will have to bring in another top-quality striker that will share the burden of leading the line with Lewandowski.
Die Roten fought hard to keep Lewandowski at the club when he was agitating for transfer in 2018. The efforts of the club have been rewarded in the last two seasons. With the way Lewandowski maintaining consistency, it will not be a big surprise that he stays beyond 2023. At the moment, his fitness is top class, and he is banging goals for fun, so long may it continue at Bayern.
