Young stars get a taste of international football

England U-21: Jamal Musiala

It was a perfect international break as Jamal Musiala made his England U21 debut against Andorra last week. The 17-year-old forward remains in between a tug of war between England and Germany. However, the FA managed to convince him to play for the U-21 team as of now.

Musiala got his first start against Albania this week. He rounded off a good week with a well-taken goal on Tuesday. A debut in international football and the first goal for U-21s bodes well for Musiala’s confidence as he continues to train with the senior team at Bayern Munich. He has already scored two senior goals for Die Roten.

USA: Chris Richards

Along with Musiala, it was also a big international break for Chris Richards. The young defender was included in the senior team of the USA. Richards didn’t get an opportunity against Wales, but he did make his senior debut late in the game against Panama.

The 20-year-old defender didn’t get a lot of playing time, but it is a significant achievement to get a national cap at such a young age. Richards is rated highly in Munich as he has already earned a start in the Bundesliga this year. Young defenders need time to get into a super squad like Bayern, but Richards has the quality to make it big in Bavaria. A first cap with the USA will certainly boost his confidence.
