Bayern Munich defender is reportedly wanted by Real Madrid in near future.

There could be a lot of changes in the defensive department at Bayern Munich next summer. The German Champions may need to bolster this area again despite signing four defenders in the last two years. On the departure front, David Alaba is likely to get a free transfer sorted next summer.

The latest murmurs in the media suggest that Spain could be his destination. According to Marca, Real Madrid is attentive to Alaba’s situation, and they want to bring him to the Spanish capital. The Spanish outlet says that Real Madrid does not want to tap up a player, and they will wait until talks are completely stalled between Die Roten and Alaba.

This is not the first time Alaba had been linked with Real Madrid two years ago. The Austrian defender has also been linked with Barcelona in the past. He reportedly prefers a move to La Liga over any other league in Europe as there is going to be interest from Premier League in the defender. Juventus has also been lately linked with a summer move for Alaba.

Alaba has been negotiating with Bayern since the start of 2020. He appointed Pini Zahavi to carry out negotiations with the club. Zahavi had previously worked with the German champions for the contract extension of Robert Lewandowski.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Austrian defender has been reportedly firm on his wage demands, while the German club is not keen on breaking the wage structure. Both parties have been constantly negotiating, but no one has blinked first. Rekordmeister eventually withdrew their last contract offer at the end of October, surprising Alaba with this announcement.

Hasan Salihamidzic doesn’t think that dialogue between both parties will open again for a new contract, while Karl Heinz-Rummenigge has not completely ruled out Alaba signing a new deal at the club. It is a game of chess right now, but the time is ticking as Alaba has only eight months left on the current contract.

Alaba will be free to negotiate with Real Madrid in January. If there is no dialogue with Die Roten before the winter transfer window, then Alaba is as good as done in Munich. The Austrian defender is reportedly not eager to move midway through the season. A winter move is not exactly beneficial for Bayern as the transfer fee is likely to be very little due to the player’s contract length.

The German Champions will have to look at different options to replace Alaba in the summer. Along with Alaba, the future of Jerome Boateng is also uncertain. Real Madrid has done business with Die Roten in the last few seasons, so it will not be a surprise if both clubs go about Alaba’s transfer on amicable terms.
