Bayern Munich has reportedly held talks with Monchengladbach midfielder.

The international break is often the time for transfer rumours to heat up as players are not in action for clubs. Bayern Munich is constantly linked with numerous players during these breaks. The winter market is just seven weeks away, so clubs may start outlining plans for the squad in such a hectic campaign.

The German Champions have started losing players for serious injuries. Alphonso Davies will not be playing again in 2020 after suffering an injury against Eintracht Frankfurt a fortnight ago. Joshua Kimmich is also set to join Davies on the sidelines after getting injured in Der Klassiker.

Kimmich is a crucial player for Hansi Flick in the central midfield, so he is going to be a big miss for the team in the next couple of months. The injury to Kimmich has led to rumours about Die Roten signing Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern had held talks with the agent of Zakaria on multiple occasions. However, a move to Bavaria in January is unlikely for Zakaria as he is recovering from a knee injury. Die Roten may have to wait at least till next summer to sign the Swiss midfielder.

More from Bayern Strikes

Zakaria has largely operated as number six for Gladbach. The 23-year-old midfielder has impressed in this position, attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. A move to Die Roten will be a tempting option for Swiss international, but he is likely to be second fiddle to Kimmich in the number six role.

Despite being second fiddle to Kimmich, Zakaria may end up playing a lot of games as Javi Martinez will be leaving Munich next summer as his contract expires. Zakaria may allow Kimmich to get some respite as he has lately played whenever available for selection.

There could be few eyebrows raised if Zakaria continues to be linked with a move to Munich as the club signed Marc Roca from Espanyol in the summer. The Spanish midfielder plays in a deeper role, and he was a transfer target for Die Roten two summers in a row. Roca is yet to get consistent playing time, but Flick is not worried about him as he is adapting to Bundesliga and Germany.

Zakaria’s arrival may also allow Kimmich to play as a box to box midfielder. The German midfielder has the passing range to create chances in the final third. He can offer more quality in the final third if played higher up the pitch. It will be interesting to see whether Die Roten make their interest concrete in summer as they are likely to face competition for his signature. He is not the urgent signing Die Roten needs, but the Swiss midfielder can surely enhance the midfield department.
