The top three performers from Bayern Munich’s victory over Lokomotiv Moscow.
A trip to Russia ended up being a tough test for Bayern Munich. The defending UEFA Champions League winners escaped with a 2-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow to remain undefeated in the group stage. The victory on Tuesday keeps Die Roten at the top in the points table with six points.
Despite a second-half equalizer from Lokomotiv Moscow, Die Roten was able to find a winner when Joshua Kimmich scored a fantastic goal from outside the penalty area. Here are the top three performers from the winning effort.
Joshua Kimmich
It was Kimmich’s goal that allowed Bayern to record their second victory in Group A. The midfielder produced a fantastic strike in the 79th minute to register his first Champions League goal of the 2020/21 season.
Kimmich also got the job defensively for Bayern as he led the club with three tackles. In passing, he registered three key passes and completed 87% of his passes. Overall, it was a great performance from Kimmich and his goal helped prevent a shock result on the road for Bayern.

Benjamin Pavard
The Bayern right-back had one of his best performances of the season so far against Lokomotiv Moscow. Benjamin Pavard registered a fantastic assist on Leon Goretzka’s opening goal of the match and was a constant threat when he got forward. He nearly recorded a second assist when he produced a delightful pass to Kinglsey Coman who would hit the post with his shot.
This was Pavard’s first assist of the season in all competitions. Defensively, the French international had two tackles, two interceptions, and three clearances. Moving forward, this should be a performance he can build off of to continue to produce at a high level in the coming matches.
Leon Goretzka
Goretzka recorded his second goal in as many matches in the Champions League to continue his terrific start to the season. He has already bettered his goal scoring record from last season’s Champions League campaign when he scored just one goal in eight competitions. This could be a career-high season for Goretzka in terms of goal scoring.
The German midfielder has a total of four goals in eight appearances in all competitions so far in the current campaign. At the moment, Goretzka ranks third on the team for most goals scored. He continues to be a tough player to defend in the penalty area and has been one of the top performers in general at the start of this season for Bayern.
