FC Bayern Munich Frauen has yet to lose a match or concede a goal in the Frauen-Bundesliga.

The 2020/21 season has gotten off to a fantastic start for FC Bayern Munich Frauen. Five victories have come in five matches so far. Even more impressive is the fact that all five victories were clean sheet results. Their winning ways have allowed them to stay on course for a top of the table of the finish as they look to dethrone defending champions Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg and Bayern pull ahead

It’s looking like the match against Wolfsburg on Nov.14 will be a critical fixture in the campaign. So far Wolfsburg and Bayern have put together similar results. Wolfsburg only leads Bayern in the table based on goals scored as they have scored one goal more than Die Roten That lone goal is all that is separating the two sides in the table at the moment as they both have 15 points from five victories.

No other club has been able to match the unbeaten run of form that Bayern and Wolfsburg have displayed to start the season. However, the closest contender is not very far away from the two clubs. Potsdam is also undefeated so far this season but they did draw against Meppen in their second match.

With 13 points, Potsdam appears they will be a tough opponent for Bayern when they meet on Oct.18. A victory for Bayern could allow them to gain further separation from their competitors as they look to begin securing one of the three UEFA Champions League qualification places.

Goals galore

Bayern has averaged three goals a match during their five-match winning streak. They have received goals from multiple sources as nine different players have already registered goals in the 2020/21 campaign. Leading the way so far are Viviane Asseyi and Sydney Lohmann who both have registered three goals each. Asseyi was a recent arrival from the French top division and Lohmann is one of the up and coming stars for Bayern.

The goal production Bayern has been able to generate is quite impressive considering they scored 33 goals less than Wolfsburg last season.

At the start of the current season, they find themselves just one goal behind Wolfsburg. The goals will have to continue to come for Bayern if they want to be able to win the Frauen-Bundesliga this season. Wolfsburg was relentless during the 2019/20 campaign in their goal scoring and it was a key reason why they did not lose a single match during their run to the title.

Strong defending

No goals have been let it by the strong Bayern backline. This has been another key component in the success the club has had. Goalkeeper Laura Benkarth has been fantastic in goal and leads the league in clean sheets. Right in front of her as been the backline anchored by the veterans Hanna Glas, Amanda Ilestedt, Carolin Simon, Kristin Demann, and Carina Wenninger. Defensively Bayern will have to continue to be strong as well as Wolfsburg conceded just eight goals last season. At the moment, they have been able to better their competitors with Wolfsburg already conceding one goal this season.
